The composition of the central zone of the “Chelebi” carpet consists of one large pattern or several large patterns arranged in a row.

The place where this carpet was first made was the village of Chelebilyar, located 10 km east of Barda. The composition and structure of the “Chelebi” carpets originated and improved in this village; later, having spread in Karabakh, Aran, and especially in the Kazakh and other areas of carpet weaving since the 19th century, they gained popularity under various names.

Zili is considered one of the oldest types of carpets woven in Nakhchivan. By the end of the Middle Ages, Nakhchivan carpets, distinguished by their bright colors, were already exported to European countries. In Nakhchivan, carpets were widely used in the household. Although Nakhchivan carpets are very similar in color and artistic features to Karabakh carpets, they differ in some features. Nakhchivan bells, woven using the technique of complex winding, are more perfect than “shadda” and “return” carpets.
